In honor of

RICHARD "JIX" LLOYD-JONES

We name The Lloyd-Jones Residency for the late Professor Richard (“Jix”) Lloyd-Jones, whose University of Iowa work between the 1970s and 1990s crossed boundaries between English and Education, re-defining the genre of nonfiction writing for students and teachers across the country, and is still a major national influence. Now, in the spirit of Lloyd-Jones’ constant commitment to all of Iowa’s youth, we believe it’s time to reach out to deserving but underserved schools in our state.

"We remember Jix Lloyd-Jones as a quiet and modest man, who left a giant imprint in all of his professional endeavors. Much of the way we view the teaching of writing at every level in the educational system, and the way we understand the organization and mission of English departments can be traced to his imagination and his efforts."

                                       - Professor John Harper, Department of English, The University of Iowa
