The Lloyd-Jones Residency provides a select group of Iowa high school students and their English teachers with a brief but intense on-campus introduction to varieties of nonfiction writing. The Residency is a collaborative project of the University of Iowa's Nonfiction Writing Program, English Department, and English Education Program, designed to serve as a model and resource for high schools throughout the state.

The two-day residency at UI will combine intensive writing instruction with an immersion in university literary life, and allow for UI follow-up visits to the schools. Students and teachers will explore the craft of nonfiction writing and receive practice in writing for expressive, informative, and persuasive purposes. Workshop discussions will enable participants to experience various kinds of responses to their writing—experience that will help them to improve their writing for whatever their future ambitions might be.

We provide student and teacher participants with meals, lodging at the Iowa House Hotel on campus, and transportation to campus. Each student will have an undergraduate mentor for two days, four graduate writer-instructors, and time with our faculty. Special events include a Residency reception and a formal evening reading.
